Liz Whitbread (she/her) is a queer theatre artist born and raised on Treaty One Territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba. A graduate of the University of Winnipeg Honours: Acting Program, her work has taken her across the Prairies, to Toronto and back again. Currently based on Treaty Six in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, her ultimate goal is to craft a creative career that aligns with her personal values of intersectionality, accessibility, community, joy, and challenging social norms. Liz identifies as a Prairie Artist, reflecting the the unique perspective that those who grew up in the region have. They are (in her general experience) practical, sturdy, stubborn, and community-focused.
Some of Liz’s notable recent acting roles include: Rita in Educating Rita (Persphone Theatre); Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Thomas Mowbray/The Duchess of York in Richard the Second (Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan); Lucy in A Bronte Without Genius (Planter Box Productions), for which she received a 2023/24 Saskatoon and Area Theatre Award for Excellence in Performance; Anne de Burgh in Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley (Persephone Theatre); Cecilia in Women of the Fur Trade (Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre); and the Red Queen in Bad Hats Collective's Alice in Wonderland (with Manitoba Theatre for Young People).
Next up, she is directing a new Saskatchewan play about the history of abortion rights in Canada - look for The Boat by Todd Devonshire in early 2026.
When not creating theatre as an actor, singer, dramaturg, director, arts administrator or coach, Liz loves hanging out with her collection of houseplants and teaching herself 90’s pop songs on the ukulele.
